Yep. There's just no stopping my gradual slide into anonymity, is there?

After nearly five years and over a thousand posts, my blog has been removed. It may seem like a hasty move, but it is the result of a good deal of hard thought. Well, thought, anyway.

For reasons best known to themselves, a fair few of my pupils used to read my blog. That was fine and dandy, and there was nothing on there that I considered inappropriate. The blog was controversial at times, more so in recent months, but I always took the view that challenging accepted wisdom is a good thing, and should be encouraged in people young and old. I am also aware that every one of us has a right to express ourselves online, so long as we obey the law.

But not everyone who reads my blog has good intentions, and while I may be free to say whatever I like, I am aware that there may be repurcussions. I want to keep my job, for example. Teachers are in a particularly vulnerable position when it comes to criticism. I doubt anyone would describe British attitudes to the teaching profession as healthy or balanced. And while I haven't attracted any trouble so far, I have been dodging that bullet for some time.

I'm not stopping blogging. I will still publish a blog on the internet, but I doubt you'll be able to find it. It won't have "Mr P" on it anywhere. It will still be controversial, but anyone who chooses to read it will be doing so because of what it says, not because of who I am. If any of my friends or family really want the URL, I'll be happy to supply it. Drop me an email.

Keep thinking critically,

Mr P
